Black Leather Furniture

What is the policy on new furniture that has a damage?

we had our new couch delivered today and then my dad saw that there's damage on the leather (the leather has a tear on the side). My dad says it might be from the rope or how it was deliverd....how much discount should we ask the store we bought it from. Should we just ask them to replace it. Whats the policy on new furniture that has a damage.

  1. You are the consumer. DEMAND a replacement. The delivery peeps messed up. Not your fault they cannot deliver stuff correctly. Like I said DEMAND a replacement. Do not offer to have someone fix it. The store messed up they are liable. They should throw in some lamps just to please you!!!
  2. The policy can vary from store to store, but even the store will realize that you are not the one that damaged it, as it was recently delivered. When our store sold furniture, if it was damaged upon delivery, we replaced it. You shouldn't have to have a patch job on a new piece of furniture, as it won't look the exactly the same and you paid for a "new" couch. You are due a replacement, which you take up with the dealer. In this case remember that a polite tone will get you better results. Always start the process with the dealer politely, and the resort to more drastic measures if they refuse. If you choose to ask for a discount, I'm sure they will oblige after inspection, because they typically don't have an outlet to sell damaged furniture and it's easier to process a discount instead of redelivering. In this case, furniture has a relatively high markup/margin, in excess of 50%, and if you didn't haggle originally, here's you chance! Always ask high for a discount, and then they will usually tell you what they CAN offer you. If you start low you will find it harder to get what you want! If you can live with the damage and could use the money, and the damage is very noticeable, then I personally would ask for 25% off the price you paid. The longer you wait, the less likely they will be to help you, and then you have to resort to dealing with the manufacturer, which with furniture, would likely get you nowhere.
  3. Just get it replaced.....don't wait. Simple as that, you paid for new, it should have arrived that way.
