Black Leather Furniture

Is it safe to use shoe polish on my black leather sofa?

I have faded patches on my 6month old black leather sofa. Do you think it would be ok to rub a small amount of black shoe polish into it?

  1. Of course it will be OK.
  2. No... Use saddle soap or leather food / cleaner. Shoe pollish will rub off onto your clothes and stain them.
  3. i don't think so. i think that it will make the sofa really oilly.
  4. Yeaaaa ! It will make it squeakyyy clean ! :]
  5. Have you ever seen a buffing cloth from a shoe shine kit?
  6. Not if you like your clothes! Shoe pollish always rubs off. You need some clear leather wax which is fit for sofas. There are natural alternatives but in the long term the proper stuff will make your couch last much longer.
  7. LOL No never
  8. Not if you're in the Habit of wearing white dresses.
  9. um no its called shoe polish you need leather polish or couch polish
  10. Suggest a 6 month old leather Sofa may still be covered by warranty
  11. An automotive department would have leather cleaner & repair. No shoe polish.
  12. Yes if you want it to transfer to your clothes.
  13. Big no way. Get the proper stuff, it is also a restorer. Pop in to your local furniture shop they will advise
  14. Shoe polish should never be used on furniture as it will always come off on your clothing. It may also contain waxes or silicones that will inhibit any correct professional repair from working. The remedy for the colour loss will depend on the type of leather you have. Some aniline style leathers can fade very quickly (in under 6 months we have seen some fade to almost white) if they are in a sunny room. This is not neccessarily a fault as this type of leather always fades - this style of leather can be very easily restored. Please do not try DIY Leather Balms from the internet as these can also cause problems (and very rarely work anyway) If you want the problem assessing please send a photo to LTT and they will be able to help with a solution. If you have a pigmented (finished leather) the problem may be due to a finish fault and this would need to be taken up with the shop where you purchased the sofa from. Again a photograph to LTT will help to ascertain this. Please do not try any DIY remedies yourself before taking professional advice as anything you try could invalidate any claim you have. Hope this helps.
